Are you ready to make an impact in Baltimore City?
Join Thread to become a part of an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of Baltimore’s youth.
Thread is a community impact organization that leverages the power of relationships to support students through graduation and beyond. Thread enrolls the lowest-performing ninth-grade students at the lowest-performing Baltimore City Public Schools, who face an abundance of challenges in and out of the classroom.
We connect them with volunteers from diverse backgrounds and experiences to build relationships and support one another in achieving their academic, professional and personal goals. Thread’s extensive network of programs and partnerships help our community overcome barriers, creating a layered network of support.
Check out this video to learn more about our community from some of our young people and volunteers.

Some of the ways our volunteers and young people connect include:
- Homework and resume help
- Career and post-high school pathway discussions
- Skill sharing, like sewing and zine making
- Rides to school or work
- The most impactful of them all: just hanging out

What is the time commitment of a Thread volunteer?
Volunteers make a one-year commitment to connect with their Thread young people at least once a week. We call these touchpoints. Volunteering with Thread can take on many forms and it’s up to you to decide how you would like to show up. We want you to bring your unique perspective and skills to share with the young people as you see fit. The most important thing we want you to share is your presence.
